A Message from the President, November 2015

Dear members of the APSN,

During the recent APSN Council meeting at the ASN Renal Week in San Diego, three national societies presented their bid to host the 2018 Congress of APSN. I'm pleased to announce that the 2018 APCN will be held in Beijing. This will be the 16th Congress of the society. The last time an APCN was held in China was in 1990 when Beijing hosted the 4th APSN Congress. Excellent bids were prepared also by the Indian and Taiwan Societies of Nephrology, and we look forward to their hosting of future meetings.

Two days before, the International Society of Nephrology decided where its 2019 Congress will be held. All those with any conflict of interest, including myself, were excluded completely from the decision-making progress. I'm pleased to report that the 2019 WCN will be held in Melbourne. APSN will join ISN and ANZSN in hosting the meeting.

After several years of valuable service to APSN, Craig Nelson has stepped down as Webmaster. Gerald Waters from New Zealand has been appointed as the new Webmaster, starting immediately. Gerald has been a member of the Website Committee and has considerable IT experience. Under his leadership, the website should continue its evolution as a very valuable asset for all members of the APSN.

As mentioned in my last report, communication between the APSN Executive and members and office bearers of the various affiliated and sponsoring societies of APSN, continues to be a major obstacle. We need your help to keep the lines of communication open, by keeping the lists of Councillors and national representatives up-to-date, including on the website.

Abstract submissions are being accepted now for the 15th APCN which will be held in Perth in September 2016. Hopefully you have already earmarked the 17th-21st September in next year's calendar!

Warm regards,

David Harris
President APSN, 2013-6
